Library

Our Library has an excellent collection of quality curriculum-based resources, literature and recreational materials in a variety of formats.  An annual subscription to Australian Standing Orders ensures that our literature collection is up-to-date with the latest releases of Australian children's fiction. Quality non-fiction resources are available from a number of sources and are purchased as required.

As well as our own collection, the students have access to the Shoalhaven City Library Bookmobile service, which visits our school on a fortnightly basis.  The combination of both collections gives our students a broader range of resources to choose from.

Tomerong Public School promotes the concept of ‘reading for pleasure' from an early age and encourages students to borrow on a regular basis.

The Library is a stimulating learning environment and caters to students when working with their class or on individual research projects.  During Library lessons, students learn how to find their way around the Library, how to identify and find books from different locations, to carry out searches using computers, how to use books for research and how to put information together.

Every year, all students (K-6) are given the opportunity to participate in the NSW Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC).  To participate in the PRC, students must experience or read a specific number of books from an extensive list during a twelve month period.  At the end of that time, all participants receive a certificate from the Premier of NSW.  As well as setting a positive goal and exposing children to quality literature, the 'Challenge' also promotes the practice of regular reading.  All students at Tomerong Public School are encouraged to participate in the PRC and as a result, the school has a high participation rate.
